Book & Relics Fair at Plaza de Armas

Plaza de Armas, La Habana

Daily 09:00 AM - 06:00 PM

It all starts at around 8am, when local relic collectors and book salesmen unpack their stock and set up their home-made stands hoping to make a profit. Held on a daily basis in Havana's oldest square, the Plaza de Armas, one can wonder around searching for old leather bound books, worn-out Brownie cameras, tinseled bronze plates and memorabilia items of Fidel Castro and Ernesto Che Guevara, alongside a widespread array of post-1959 medals.

During weekends, the fair is especially busy, and around midday there is a good chance to find street performers in stilts playing some lively conga beats. Every once in a while, renowned Cuban authors have special readings and book presentations opposite the Palacio de los Capitanes Generales, dating from the 1770s, where the city museum is housed.

During your visit, don’t forget to mingle in the surrounding crowded atmospheric streets and landmarks which showcase Havana's colonial past. Seize your chance while in Havana for your Caribbean vacation to buy a memento to brag about in front of your friends back home.
