The Calle de Madera has a special charm. Not only because this street located opposite to the old Palacio de los Capitanes Generales (today the City Museum) at Plaza de Armas, draws the attention of the visitor. Not only because it is the result of an experiment aimed to the paving of our main arteries, back in the nineteenth century, and for being very expensive and short-lived, which was never implemented, remaining only as a testimony of history. No. Calle de Madera, besides all this, besides its books and vintage relics, is the regular space of Sábado del Libro.
Every Saturday, the interested reader will have the opportunity to sit in the only street with wood cobblestones in Cuba and attend a book presentation. Usually the presentation is done by the author, who is usually accompanied by publishers and a specialist in his work. Cuban publishing houses present the latest of their catalogue, and you will be able to find the newest Cuban or foreign literature. The event, which begins at 11:00 am, ends with sales of the invited author, just under the roofs of the portal of the Palacio de los Capitanes Generales.
