Casa de las Tradiciones

Casa de las Tradiciones, Santiago de Cuba

Daily 12:00 PM - 12:00 AM

Santiago de Cuba overflows with musical talent. One place to experience it is the Casa de las Tradiciones which blends the most homegrown of Cuban music, Afro-Caribbean roots, the aroma of rum and the Cuban cigar.

This picturesque large dwelling is found in the popular neighborhood of El Tivolí, Santiago’s old French quarter known for its red-roofed houses and steep streets. Since 1996 the Casa de las Tradiciones has been the local home for traditional arts.

Musical genres such as the son, the time-honored trova and the bolero give life to this nook of Santiago de Cuba. Enjoy its multiple spaces dedicated to visual arts and photography, social gatherings, jamming, the Tobacco Peña (Saturdays) and the Poetry Peña (the second Friday of each month) where oral storytellers meet.

Here, while listening to the rhythm of Batá drums and dancing the delicious Caribbean rumba, improvisation and spontaneity reign.

Covering the walls are photos and autographs of Santiago de Cuba’s great musicians and personalities. A bar offers cocktails and nearly every kind of rum drink with the mojito being the most requested by visitors. A backyard patio offers grilled Creole food in national currency (CUP) and CUC.

Casa de las Tradiciones is not just a place for sightseeing, but also a place to enjoy a moment of relaxation. Take your camera and capture special moments along with good Cuban music.

Located at 154 Rabí between Princesa and San Fernando.
