Every evening, at the historical fortress of San Carlos de La Cabaña, several local artisans set up their stands for a colourful yet small scale crafts fair. The setting is magical, as the fair is held inside Havana´s most alluring colonial military complex, built in the18th century, during the colonial ages of Cuba. Narrow streets, stone walls, crenelated barracks and patrimonial cannons only add to the pleasant atmosphere which can be experienced in this fortress.
Overall, the quality of products is fairly decent, featuring Rumberos, fruit vendors and sombrero-wearing Guajiros figurines carved in wood and several other attention grabbing souvenirs. Whilst in the fair, you should not miss the opportunity to attend the Cannon Shooting ceremony, which involves firing the cannons promptly at 9.00 pm. In olden times, this was the signal for a curfew for all the inhabitants of Havana to re-enter within the old city walls.
